Background

The Energy Act 2019 also requires the integration of county energy plans into the national energy plan. The SEforALL Action Agenda 2016 identified the need for capacity development at both levels.

Background
Traditional biomass fuels (firewood and charcoal) are used by approximately 68% of households in Kenya. This has negative effects associated with the emission of CO2 and particulate matter. Access to clean cooking is a sub component of SDG 7 which promotes universal access to clean energy by 2030. Kenya’s goal is to achieve “Universal access to clean cooking by 2028” and “reduce the emission of Green House gases by 32% by 2030” under the NDC framework. The strategies and policies operationalize the stated goals and commitments.
