MINISTRY OF ENERGY WITHDRAWS PROPOSED RETAIL ELECTRICITY TARIFF

The Government has withdrawn Kenya Power’s electricity tariff review application, stopping a proposed increase in electricity power costs for domestic and industrial consumers.
The Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Mr. Opiyo Wandayi said the decision was reached after consultations with government agencies and key stakeholders in the energy sector.
"Following consultations within government and key stakeholders in the sector, the retail electricity tariff review application submitted in March this year by KPLC has been withdrawn," said Mr Wandayi
 In a statement released Wednesday June 3rrd 2026, the Cabinet Secretary said, the move was aimed at addressing the long-term sustainability of the energy sector  and ‘protecting households, businesses, and industries from cost escalation and support economic growth, support livelihoods and create jobs”. 
KPLC had on March 31, applied for the review of the electricity tariff on March 31, 2026, which 
The Cabinet Secretary said, following the withdrawal of the application, the current electricity tariffs shall remain in force and unchanged unless lawfully reviewed in accordance with the law. He directed that consumers and businesses should continue to enjoy uninterrupted access to electricity under the current tariff structure.
