Kenya increased power connection to homes by over 774, 000 consumers from 8,919,584 homes in 2022 to 9,693,954 in 2024 homes while power generation increased by over 240 megawatts from 3076 Megawatts in 2022 to 3243 megawatts in 2024 representing 5.4 percent increase .
In a joint press briefing by the Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Mr. Opiyo Wandayi and the Deputy Chief of Staff, Performance and Delivery Management, Mr Eliud Owalo, at the KAWI complex in Nairobi South C, after a negotiation and validation of the Ministry’s Performance Contract (PC), for the 2024-2025 Financial Year, the two officials noted that power distribution increased by over 2600 kilometers over the past two years representing 3.2% growth.
In this financial year, the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum target to strengthen policy guidelines and laws to enhance the development energy and accelerate completion of projects to actualize government’s plan of the Bottom up Economic Transformative Agenda.
While the Ministry targets to enhance Energy Generation that is clean, sustainable and affordable it also aims to make it competitive, reliable and secure.
Additionally, there are plans to provide reliable and quality electricity supply and to enhance customer satisfaction, and growth of sales revenue, through its 20-year power generation and transmission master plan that has been developed among other interventions.
