Kenya secures K.Sh 11.7 billion to build new National Control center for power

The Government has signed a ksh 11,7 billion loan agreement with the French government for the construction of a new National System Control Center (NSCC) to enhance the capacity and integrity of the electricity power supply across the country.
The agreement signed by the Cabinet Secretary for Treasury Mr. John Mbadi and the French Ambassador to Kenya, Arnaud Suquet unlocks funding to build a new control center facility that will stabilize power supply in the national grid and make it reliable and efficient.

The existing control center, built in the 1980s has been outstripped by rapid growth of the national power grid following intensive government drive to enhance power supply capacity and integrity across the country.
 
In his remarks after the signing of the agreement, Mr. Mbadi said the government will continue to increase investments in the renewable energy-based generations that is resilient to physical and cyber security challenges.   

The Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Opiyo Wandayi thanked the French Government for the support noting that the modernization of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) infrastructure generation will place the country in a pivotal place to scale economic development.

The French Ambassador Arnaud Suquet said Kenya and France have had long outstanding close ties and commended Kenya for adopting green energy solutions. Mr. Saquet said with the construction of the new command center will be minimized power outage and make it possible to more green energy injected into the national grid.
Also present in the event was the Principal Secretary for Energy Mr. Alex Wachira.
