Stakeholders in Energy Sector validate draft Energy policy

Stake holders in the energy sector have validated a draft of National Energy policy that will guide the sector for the next five years.
The draft policy, developed through a multi-sectorial approach will later be presented to the Cabinet and thereafter tabled before parliament for debate and approval.
The Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Opiyo Wandayi said, the draft policy is designed to address technological advancements in the sector, adapt to climate change and the growing demand for energy security. 
Speaking at a Nairobi hotel during a validation of the draft policy, Mr. Wandayi said, the document aims to drive sustainable, competitive, efficient, affordable, reliable and secure energy necessary for the national economic growth and enhanced livelihoods. He added that, the policy  aims to provide equitable quality access to electricity energy to all Kenyans and that the policy is designed to position the country at the forefront of a just and inclusive society and advance the country position to low carbon emission. 
He also noted that the draft policy provides a strong commitment to sustainable energy, environmental stewardship and equitable energy access. Mr. Opiyo said the policy embraces innovation and efficient energy solutions that will foster private sector participation and investments in the energy sector. He noted that the draft policy will inspire good governance through effective institutional coordination and synergy that will enhance reforms and investor friendly frameworks
The Cabinet Secretary said, the growing industrial development, the expanding urbanization and rise in the population growth continues to increase the demand for electricity energy in the country creating a need for increased investments in the energy sector. 
He explained that it was for that reason, that deliberate efforts were made to design a progressive policy geared towards providing solutions to the growing energy demand by attracting and increasing investments in the sector for sustained growth.
He said, the draft policy is all inclusive because it engages national and county governments, private investors, development partners and local communities. He also said that a vibrant monitoring and evaluation system has been put in place to support and ensure effective implementation of the policy.
