Kenya signs MOU on Nuclear power collaboration with China

The Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NUPEA) and the China Nuclear Engineering and Construction Corporation (CNECC) International have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that provides for collaboration in technical transfer in Nuclear energy implementation and development towards nuclear power programs in Kenya.
The MOU signing between NUPEA Chief Executive Officer, Justus Wabuyabo and the President of the CNECC, Li Xiaohong , witnessed by Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Petroleum and Energy, Opiyo Wandayi at the Kawi Complex in Nairobi also provides a framework to ensure Kenya’s nuclear Agency benefits from exchange of technical expertise in research and innovation and enhance corporation in the development of 19 nuclear infrastructure elements.
The nuclear corporation will be managed by a joint working group to ensure the interest and regulatory requirements of the parties are met.
The Nuclear Agency has developed a 15 years strategic plan for the implementation of Kenya’s Nuclear Power Programme. The strategic plan provides for key issues that are necessary for the establishment of the country’s nuclear power programme infrastructure
The Strategy also offers a comprehensive plan for different phases of the nuclear power programme with a detailed mechanism of risk identification and mitigation.
