  • The Crude Oil is the raw material for fuel
  • Currently 68,000 barrels of Crude Oil have been pumped out of the Lokichar reserves and stored in tanks.
  • According to Tullow Oil and Africa Oil, an estimated 750 million barrels of crude oil is still to be extracted from the Turkana wells.
  • The Crude Oil is a sticky which needs to be liquidified before transportation. Steam injections are therefore connected into these tanks where crude oil is stored.
  • The steam will be released at a certain temperature into these tanks to liquidify the oil before being transferred to ISO tanks which will be loaded on tracks for transportation.

Early Oil Pilot Scheme is a key strategic project under the vision 2030 development blueprint that involves exploiting and marketing its oil in small scale in order to test the market, expected to start by mid-2017 until mid-2019. This program was as a result of Tullow Oil exceptional oil discovery in Lokichar, Turkana, in April 2012.

Kenya aims to build a 1,000MW nuclear power plant with 4,000 MW of power from nuclear electricity by 2030, with the first nuclear power plant of 1000MW targeted for completion in 2027.A nuclear power plant is a thermal power station in which the heat source is a nuclear reactor. The heat is used to generate steam which drives a steam turbine connected to an electric generator which produces electricity.

The GPOBA Electrification project aims to increase access to electricity in informal settlements in the urban, peri-urban, and rural areas of Kenya through provision of safe, legal and affordable power connections. This is made possible through subsidizing connections in order to enhance equity of electricity access. The project will enable Kenya Power to reduce its commercial losses resulting from illegal electricity connections while addressing electricity access and safety needs of slum dwellers.

Liquefied petroleum gas is a modern alternative fuel fronted by the Government of Kenya for use as a preferred alternative to the existing Kerosene and wood fuels. This is because it reduces harmful emissions that form hazards on health and environmental degradation. The aim of this project is to supply five million Kenyans with 6kg LPG cylinder, over three years at 70% subsidized cost.
